local publication - "El Despertador" or "Get Up Stand Up"

"El Despertador" or "Get Up Stand Up" was a publication of the 32nd ward of Chicago, which encompasses at least Logan Square. It is in both spanish and english, you flip it over to get the other language. The Chicago history museum had this one copy. It is from 1989/1990, when Emma Lozano was president of the 32nd Ward Fair Share/IPO. In this issue there is a picture of her meeting Cuauhtemoc Cardenas in Chicago. The caption reads "Cardenas ran for president of Mexico and the election was stolen by the corrupt ruling "PRI" party." Sounds faMILIAR.

Not hyper radical, but solid and interesting and inspiring. It is full of discussion of movements for jobs and housing. On the second page there is a memorial for Fred Hampton.
